Match In Aid Of Martyn Franklin

Those of you who visit the Leader-Lines or Anglia Sportcast websites will probably be aware that a match has been organised in memory of Martyn Franklin, the angler swept out to sea at Kessingland. It will be held on Friday 29th December at Dunwich. Fishing is from 9.30am to 2.30pm and will be to catch and release rules. For more details and to sign-up for the match visit the Anglia Sportcast website.

Christmas Meal

A Christmas meal will be held at the Yacht Club on Wednesday 13th December. Anyone interested can contact the Secretary. Price is £15 per person.

Fisherman Swept Out To Sea

It has been reported today (Wednesday 1st November) that an angler has been swept out to sea at Kessingland. For more on this story use the following links. Obviously our thoughts are with the family and friends of the missing angler.

Pontins Week Thanks

After another successful Pontins Week we received this email of thanks, so thought it should be shared with you all:

From The Marines Angling Club contingent - Ken Buxey (Chairman), Tony Libby (Freshwater Steward), Roy Pitcairn (Treasurer and Vice Chairman), John Chidwick (Secretary and Competition Steward) may we say a BIG THANKYOU to all Lowestoft Angling Society Organisers of The Fishing Week at Pakefield along with best wishes to their wives partners and girlfriends. We all look forward to seeing you all next year,

Good Luck,
Tightlines,
Ken

Orford Trip

Not confirmed yet, but the Orford trip is hopefully on Saturday 25th November. The boat will leave at 8.30am, pick-up from the island at 4.30pm. The Crouch is being opted for this time, so travel light.

Bass size limit

It has been announced that the size limit will increase to 40cm from 6th April 2007. Personally, to catch a bass of any size would be nice. Follow this link for more: Defra website

Prize Presentation 2007

A date for your diary: Saturday May 19th 2007. As always at the Masonic Hall. No excuses of forgetting the date now.

Scales

Has anyone got a set of LSAS scales? We seem to be short of some, especially digital scales. Let the Secretary know if you've got a set.

Pier Matches

An agreement has been reached which allows us entry to the South Pier once again. The Summer series of matches will be run on the first Wednesday of July, August and September. Fishing will start at 7pm, meet at the barrier outside the Yacht Club at 6.15pm if you want to drive onto the pier. Don't be late, or you'll be locked out! Sending an email to confirm attendance would probably be best.

Website

Thanks to Leo. The adverts are gone! If you are still not free from them, hold down the 'ctrl' key while clicking refresh. That should clear them forever! Its so much nicer here now.

Website

I'm looking into removing these adverts from our site, as recently they seem to have taken over. We would have to pay extra for them to be removed, but I think the time has come. In the meantime the site has gained a couple more pages of archives, is now more printer friendly (I hope), and the Diary dates on the home page should give you no excuses for missing anything! I apologise for the membership form, not very interactive I know. If we upgrade more options will become available, and that will be first on the list. Now I just need to archive this page.......

Pier Matches

Not good news on the pier front, as permission to fish inside the harbour could not be gained. The Committee are continuing to try and gain access to the South Pier, and it is hoped that some matches could be held if access is granted. Until then, the Pier matches have been suspended. As for the Carnival match........

AGM

Among the subjects raised, Tuesday matches from Christmas to April will be reinstated for 2007, with venues to be decided from week to week. The Sunday match venues will also be decided this way during the same period. The fixtures will appear in the Journal as usual, and efforts will be made to get them on here too.

Along the same lines, it has been suggested that all Club and Open matches be put in the EDP. Results shouldn't be a problem, and this will be looked into.

The Pier matches are due to start on the 5th April, but with no access for vehicles it has been decided not to use the South Pier. However, the possibility of fishing in the harbour is being viewed as an alternative. Watch this space!

A decision on whether the New Years Day and Boxing Day Opens should continue has been delayed until nearer the time, to see if anyone comes forward to help with the organisation of these events.

The suggestion that Society Open matches could be Penn qualifiers will be followed up by the Secretary. Hopefully this will raise numbers attending these matches.

The Club rules (10 and 12) are to be changed. This will be done at the next Committee meeting.

There are some changes to the Committee itself, see the Committee page for the new list.

AGM

The AGM will be held at the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club on Wednesday 29th March at 7.30pm. If you have any items for inclusion please send them to the Secretary before the 8th March.

Orford Trip

A boat has been booked for Saturday 8th April. Meet at Orford Quay 8.00am, pick-up from the island will be at 4.00pm. If you would like to go please let Stan Gooderham know as soon as possible.

Cups and Trophies

These are due back by the end of February this year, so we can do some needed repairs on some of them. Please return to Leo Whisstock at 133 Corton Road, or to the Secretary.

Spring Open

This is on Sunday 23rd April at Pakefield, fishing from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Entry fee £5 plus £5 optional pool. Draw at 8.30am in the All Saints Road car park. Please ring to book your place.

Pontins Week

Once again we are looking for helpers to run this event. It starts on Friday 22nd September, ending on the 29th. The main help needed is on the freshwater section and the raffle. If you can help please let the Secretary know.

Subscriptions

These are due before the end of March. Renewal is £10 adults, £5 for juniors and anyone over 60 years old. New membership is £12/£6.

Social Evenings

If there is enough interest we could run another trip up the river one Summer evening on the river boat. Alternatively we could get together and have a meal at the Swann Inn at Barnby. If either of these are of interest, or you have other ideas, please let the Secretary know.

Prize Presentation Dinner

This is on Saturday 6th May at the Masonic Hall. The menu is as follows:

Prawn cocktail or vegetable soup

Beef or chicken breast with potatoes and vegetables

Strawberry cheesecake or apple crumble with custard

Coffee and mints

Price to be agreed, but last year it was £10 adults, £5. If you would like to book your place please give the Secretary a call. Music will be arranged by Bonnie and Leo Whisstock.

Gold Medal

A real piece of LSAS history has been rescued from ebay, thanks to Leo. A gold medal, inscribed with the name 'E. Bunn' and the year 1912, was purchased for the Society after a bidding frenzy. There's a photo on the left. If anyone knows anything about the history of this medal, please let us know. The LSAS history mentions gold medals presented by the Mayor, but that is about all we have at the moment.

New Layout

If you have looked at the Saltwater Results page recently you will have noticed a change. Hopefully a change for the better. If you haven't noticed it, try holding down 'ctrl' while refreshing the page. If you still can't see it, turn your monitor on.

Newsletter

There will be a newsletter shortly, so I won't spoil all the fun. Just to say it will have dates and details for the April Spring Open, Orford trip, Dinner-Dance and the AGM.

Record Bass Revisited

For those who are interested, it is believed the record is still 8lb 2oz. Maybe a list should be drawn up of all records?

Tuesday Night Matches

Although the Winter matches have officially ended on Tuesdays, there has been enough interest shown to continue with a series running from January 10th to March 28th. It has been proposed each angler pays £1 per match, with the money being split between the anglers with highest total weight and highest total points at the end of the series. There could also be a trophy up for grabs!

Record Bass

This is one for Little Stan I suspect, as I don't know the answer. We have received an email asking if the bass record for the Society has been beaten since the 1994-95 season (8lb 2oz). If anyone knows, let us know at the usual email address so we can pass it on.
