Carnival Match 2004

Yet again we had a good turn out this year, with 51 anglers taking part. With the raffle profit we were able to send N.S.H.E.B.A. £230. Thanks to all who either fished, helped or gave prizes; and once again thanks to Sam Hook Sports who gave all the prizes for the match.

Junior Festival 2004

On Saturday, 13th November the Lowestoft Sea Angling Society ran the Junior Festival on the South Pier. The weather was not brilliant with showers throughout the match, but the sea had a good colour and the kids were very keen to catch fish. Eighteen turned out to fish, their ages were from 3 years to 15 years and there were four girls amongst them. There were fish all along the pier with 11 weighing in. The others had fish but did not make the size limits. Fish caught included Whiting, Codling, Pout, Dab, Pollock and Wrasse. The results were as follows:

Place (Prize)Name (Age)Weight (Fish Caught)
1st (Reel)Calvin Sherwood (10)2lb 2½oz (codling, whiting, pout, dab)
2nd (Brolly)Sam Blowers (12)1lb 8½oz (dab, whiting, 2 pout)
3rd (Seat Box)Tasmin Kent (9)15½oz (wrasse, 3 pout)
4th (Rod)Ben Tacon (14)14oz (pollock, whiting)

All the other anglers received a spool of line and hooks. Thanks must go to all the anglers who took part and a special thanks to Sam Hook Sports who donated the prizes again this year, as they have done for many years. Below is a picture of the winners (l to r):

Lowestoft Festival 2004

The Lowestoft Festival took place at Hopton beach on Sunday, 28th November. There were 45 anglers fishing on a day the weather was kind, with a light breeze and no rain. This event has been running for at least seventy years, and on checking our records it showed that in 1935 there were over 120 anglers fishing what was then fished over the full week rather than just one day. It also showed that weights were not much different than of today. Below are the results for 2004:

Gary's weight was made up with 5 codling, 2 whiting and a dab, this was just one ounce more than he had to win last year's match. Second place had 2 codling, 3 pouts and 2 dabs. Third had 1 codling, 3 pouts, 3 dabs and a flounder. Fourth had 1 codling, 3 whiting, 1 pout and a dab.

White Horse Inn Championship 2004

27 anglers took part in this festive match on a bright, crisp, cold still morning. Only half of the anglers weighed in, with the first three places having a single codling each. Other fish caught were whiting, pout, dabs and a flounder. Not quite the result the anglers were looking for.
