Labour Party Cup 2006

There were only 20 fishing the match this year at Pakefield. Maybe this was due to there being two matches run on the next day at Sizewell and Weybourne, and with the seeing in of the new year. Mark Sharman had the winning bag, with a cod, whiting and a flounder for 2lb 10oz. Second was Roy Clarke, with a cod for 2lb 6¼oz. Third was a tie, with Albert Randlesome (cod) and John Harvey (whiting and two dabs) both weighing 1lb 4½oz. Mark was a section winner and the other section was shared by Albert and John. The conditions for the match were very comfortable with very little wind, a calm sea, and the water had a good colour.

Carnival Match 2006

The match was fished on the South Pier on Friday 11th August (7.00pm to 9.30pm). There were 34 anglers who took part, with only seven catching sizeable fish. The evening turned out to be more like Winter than Summer, with prolonged rain at first turning to showers later. The anglers were not put off by the weather and the match was very competitive. The winner was Mick Kent who had a codling and a pout for 1lb 5½oz to win the first prize of a rod, reel and line. Second was Brian Watson who had three eels for 1lb 1½oz, for which he won a fishing umbrella. Third was Tony Skinner with a flounder and an eel for 8½oz. He won a seat tackle box. Fourth was Paul Carter with a small sole for 5½oz to win a carry holdall. These were the only adults to weigh in, but three juniors weighed in. First was Perri George who had a 2oz pout to win a carryall, Second was Danny Perring who had a 1¾oz eel to win a trace wallet. Finally Dale Parker-Hodds had a 1½oz eel to win the trophy for the smallest sizeable fish and a trace wallet. Thanks must go to Sam Hook Sports who again donated all the match prizes. Luckilly it dried out for the prize presentation. There was a raffle on the night which was well supported and made £95. The match made £102 and both of these amounts will be going to the Friends of Lowestoft Hospital and N.S.H.E.B.A. Thanks must go to all who gave prizes for the raffle and to those who fished. There is a photo of the winners on the left.

Sam Hook Open 2006

42 anglers fished the match which was pegged on the Pakefield stretch of beach (too many to use Pontins!). Most of the fish came from in front of the boats, but the favoured stretch in the groynes produced very little. The winning bag was 3 codling, 2 pout and an eel. Second and third both had 3 codling a piece. There were 17 codling caught in the match.

Junior Festival 2006

This year we saw the lowest number of anglers turn out, but the three that did fish had a very enjoyable and competitive match. All three had fish to weigh in and with only one more fish the result might have been different. The top place went to Jordan Carter, who had a codling for 1lb 3oz to win him a fixed spool reel. Second place went to Perri George who had two pout for 13oz to net him a fishing umbrella. Third went to Reece King who also had two pout to weigh 11oz and win a beach casting rod. All three also had a spool of line to go with the prize. Once again we must thank Sam Hook Sports who gave all the prizes for the match.

Lowestoft Festival 2006

This year's match attracted 39 anglers to Hopton beach. It is now very snaggy with lots of the anglers losing several sets of gear during the match, but on the plus side more than 60% weighed in. The top bag went to George Smith who had made the journey from Grimsby for the match. His bag was made up of two dabs, a rockling and a cod of 2lb 6oz for a total of 3lb 4½oz. He fished from peg 12 which was just to the right of the steps. Second was Dale Rushmere (Lowestoft) who had five whiting and four dabs for 2lb 15¾oz from the end peg just right of Beach Road. Third was John Harvey (Ditchingham) who had a cod, pout and whiting for 2lb 9¼oz. Fourth was John Lacey (Yarmouth) with three whiting, three dabs and a rockling for 2lb 7¼oz. The pairs match was won by John Harvey and Martin Dunning who weighed a total of 4lb 7oz. Second were George Smith and Brian Watson with 4lb 6oz. Once again just one extra fish might well have changed the whole match result, showing just how important it is for the anglers to stay alert right to the end of the match.
