Labour Party Cup 2007

The New Year's Day Open has been cancelled. This is due to the abundance of dabs being caught at Kelling, where the Holt angling club are holding a match on the same day. The Labour Party Cup will be held at a later date.

Spring Open 2007

The Spring Open, set for Sunday 22nd April, has also been cancelled this year. Again this is due to another match being held on the same day. After looking for an alternative date it was decided the match should not go ahead. Apologies to anyone who may have entered.

The carnival match was fished on the South Pier on Friday 10th August. There were 30 anglers fishing, with 12 of them being juniors. The weather this year was a lot kinder than last and it turned out to be one of the better evenings of the summer. It was a shame the fish did not turn up in greater numbers. First place went to David Todd who had a 10½oz sole to win him a beachcaster rod and reel. Second was Tonicha Kent. She had a 6oz sole to win a reel. Third was a tie between Pam Carter (dab) and Brian Watson (eel), both having 5½oz to share a seatbox. Top junior was Tonicha who added a beachcaster rod to her other prize. Carl Warren and Lewis Sibbons (junior) both had a 2oz eel to share the smallest sizeable fish trophy and £10. Thanks again must go to Sam Hook Sports who most kindly donated the prizes for the match, also thanks to all who gave prizes for the raffle and all the anglers. All the match entry fees and the proceeds of the raffle made a total of £190 which was given to N.S.H.E.B.A.

The Junior Festival was held on the South Pier on Saturday 10th November. Only four anglers entered, but all four had a very enjoyable time despite the rain during the match. They all caught fish and it was reasonably close result that could have gone to anyone. First place went to Perri George who had a codling, two pout, a dab and a rockling for 2lb 2oz. Perri was jumping for joy just before the end of the match when he landed a 1lb 2oz codling. He told our Secretary that he has been fishing since he was three (he's now nine) and this was his first codling. What a time to get your first codling! Perri won an Opus fixed-spool reel. Second place went to Luke Gallagher, 12. He caught four pout for 1lb 4oz and won a beach rod. Third was Ross Warren, 10, who had a pout for 8½oz and won a Mustad back-pack. Fourth was Tasmin Kent, 12, who had a pout and a dab for 8oz and won a Mustad rig wallet. Once again thanks go to Sam Hook Sports who donated all the prizes. Photos are on the left.

Lowestoft Festival

Yet another cancellation due to a clash of fixtures. Apologies to those who were going to fish. The date for next year is 23rd November, hopefully this will be enough notice to those who arrange other matches.

Boxing Day Open

The Boxing Day Open took place at Hopton. Thirty-four anglers turned out on a bright and fine day, shame that the fish did not turn out as well. Just under half weighed in a mixture of whiting, dabs and the odd codling. One more fish falling to anyone in the top four and the result might have been different. Wayne's winning bag netted him £175 for the win and section. Nice to see all the club match practice has paid off for the LSAS members!
