Carnival Match 2009
This year's match on the South Pier on Friday 7th August had a very good turnout that took us by surprise! We were expecting about 40 to turn up but it ended up with 58 anglers taking part, which makes this one of the best supported matches in the area. There were 54 fish brought to the scales (most of which were returned alive to the sea) by 26 anglers. Even those who did not weigh in either had undersize fish or plenty of bites to keep them occupied during the match. Brian Watson took an early lead when he had 2 eels in the first 25 minutes but Martin Waters had a mixed bag (3 dogs, eels and a sole) for 2lb 11oz to win the match and take the first prize of a beachcaster. Brian was second with 5 eels for 2lb 9oz to win a fixed spool reel. Third was John Baker who had 4 fish for 1lb 13oz to win a rucksack. Top Junior was 11 year-old Michael Bonfield who had 4 fish for 1lb 6½oz to win him a beach tripod. Top Lady was Sherry Murray from Dereham who had an eel and a sole for 1lb 1oz to win a rig wallet. The trophy for the smallest sizeable fish was won by Darren George who had an eel of 1½oz.
There was a raffle on the night supported by local traders and club members which helped raise money for N.S.H.E.B.A. (Friends of Lowestoft Hospital). Total money made on the night from the match entry and raffle profit was £289 which is the best we have made for many years. Thanks must go to Sam Hook Fishing Tackle, who again donated prizes for the match, and to all the anglers who took part.

Junior Festival 2009
At this years match there were 8 anglers taking part, and what a competitive bunch they were. The match was dominated by two sisters Tasmin (14) and Tonicha (12) Kent who showed the boys the way to fish. Tasmin had 5 pouts and an eel for 1lb 8oz to take first place and win a beachcaster rod. Tonicha had a sole and a flounder for 9oz to take second place and win a headlamp. Third was Perri George (11) who had a 7oz pout to win some line and trace. All who took part were given baseball caps. John Harris (12) who was already fishing on the Pier when we arrived had just caught a 1lb dogfish so decided to enter the match but was unable to catch another during the match. In the photo on the left Perri is holding a 2lb lobster, one of a pair that his uncle Darren caught whilst the match was in progress.
