Pontins Week 2010

Sunday 3rd October saw the beginning of the fishing for Pontins Week 2010, with the Sam Hook Open being held at Pakefield. Ian Hopper (Eastbourne) won the match with one cod, eight whiting and two eels for 6lb exactly. The full result can be found on the Open Matches page.
On Monday the four days of competition started. The beach anglers had two days at Pakefield and two below the cliffs at Pontins. Both venues fished reasonably well and Ian Hopper again came out on top after two wins and two second places gave him an aggregate weight of 26lb 8oz. Terry Taylor (Eastbourne) was second with a total weight of 20lb 7oz, and third was Colin Sargeant (Eastbourne) with 18lb 4oz.
The pier fishing was split between Gorleston and the South Pier at Lowestoft. Tony Libby (Deal) had a win on the Monday and a second place on Thursday to give him a total winning weight of 7lb 1oz. Chris Cox (Southend) was second with 6lb 9oz and Ian Reynolds third with 5lb 1oz.
The boats found plenty of whiting, but a lot were undersize. There were bigger fish to be had though, which made the week very interesting. One day did have to be cancelled due to the weather, but over the three days of competition Michael Pearce (Gravesend) secured first place with 27lb 15oz. Second was Alex Tibbles (Lowestoft) with 25lb 6oz. Third was Barry Pearce (Gravesend) with 23lb 13oz.
As for 2009 three coaches were involved in the coarse fishing held at Colton, Railway and Barford Match lakes along with the River Yare at Langley. The winner was John Howard (Doncaster), who improved on his second-placed finish last year with a total weight of 302lb 1oz. Second place went to Keith Pearson (Doncaster) with 232lb 8oz and third was Tony Nally (Cotgrave Notts) with 223lb 4oz.
The overall winners of each discipline won a £250 holiday voucher for Pontins, with tackle prizes for overall second and third places and for each daily top three.
